RAMEN WORKSHOP AT NOODLEBAR GENT

Ramen Workshop!!!!!

Long time since we have been able to post anything - small renovations, wedding planning, and adopting a new family member (he arrives in 2 weeks from Spain) but finally have something worthy to post!!

Bert and I went back to our friends Mathias and Laurens of Ramen Gent for their Gyoza and Ramen workshop... it was amazing and delicious!!! We started off with a small cured beef appetizer, edamame, and a matcha gin and tonic with fresh mint and grapefruit (always a favorite).

One of the first small dishes we started with was brussel sprouts with japanese chili, raw ginger, garlic and other spices almost smashed together.

The finished product! Was delicious and spicy!

Another small dish included soybeans and a mix of soy sauce that we had to create in class, garnished with a lot of sesame seeds (out of respect to the Ramen boys and their business, i'm not going to list all the ingredients and steps - but i highly recommend anyone in the area to take this class).

We weren't allowed to eat the food immediately :(

The next step was the GYOZA! They explained to us the seasoning and how the prep was going to begin alongside how the ingredients were special and treated in Japanese culture.

After mixing the beef, soybeans, shrimp and seasoning together!

The first two attempts were not successful but eventually we got the hang of it... especially after Matthias and Laurens gave us some pointers.

We made a lot... i could almost say i was a pro!!!

Our gyoza's! (slightly proud).

Laurens begins to cook them and explain how to regulate the temperature not to burn them but to make sure they are fully cooked.

WAITING...

Bert and I were very happy!

After the gyozas were inhaled... i mean eaten! We started on the main dish... the roasted pork Ramen!

Making our own noodles was a blast and i now know what i'm getting myself for the kitchen! I was a bit too rough with my raw noodles ;)

Laurens in action!

After the noodles were made, fried and plated, the broth was assembled, we added the soybeans, picked egg, bamboo shoots and roasted pork.... sweet jesus it was tasty, and easily one of my favorite dishes!

After a night of cooking we sat down with our friends for some wine, silly stories and plans for the future!

** Ramen Gent has multiple cooking workshops on their website and facebook page if anyone is interested in reserving a seat, and can be contacted for group appointments and catering events.
